Rainbow Ring from Amazon.com

Forever youthful the colors of the rainbow, and the rainbow itself, are always uplifting. As we celebrate Pride month the rainbow has also come to mean inclusion for the LGBTQ community and a wearable symbol of acknowledgment.

An arch of colors formed in the sky in certain circumstances, caused by the refraction and dispersion of the sun’s light by rain or other water droplets in the atmosphere.

Fashion Wish List Item: “Ballet Girl” Dress by Simple Retro

Rylee Puff Short-Sleeved Light Purple Printed Dress ($69.99)

A few Halloween’s ago, at the school I work at as a Special Education Instructional Assistant for LAUSD, I got to live out my fantasy of dressing like the fairy Violet from Louisa May Alcott’s short story “The Power of Love”. Clad in a handmade tulle skirt, floral leggings, fairy wings, and a tiara I danced a happy fairy dance with my coworker (who was also dressed like a fairy) on the playground in front of the whole school. What made the costume so memorable was the how the color scheme showcased various shades of purple.

In addition to being one of my favorite colors, purple is also quite significant for me, because it’s the color for lupus awareness, and I was diagnosed with SLE lupus in 2008. After seeing the lovely lavender light purple puff sleeved ballet-inspired dress on the simpleretro.com website https://www.simpleretro.com I knew it was going on my wish list.

Slightly 1930s, I love that the subtle design and longer hemline make it a perfect garden party or afternoon tea frock especially if paired with a pretty hat, bag, and ballet flats.

Fashion Coordination: Sophisticated Checks

Comprised of full raffles and checks the silhouette of this green and white gingham blouse becomes more sophisticated with the addition of a black leather wraparound belt. Comfort, as always, is a consideration for a work outfit, so the pairing with the lightweight black pants makes sense especially when they’re further brought down to earth with a lightweight jacket and snazzy pair of sneakers

Favorite Fashion Look: Florals

Florals aren’t for everyone, especially if you’re the type who doesn’t care for unadulterated beauty, and prefer sturdy neutrals instead. Yet even if you are the practical sort prone to mannish, no-nonsense details, I’m sure there’s a floral out there for you.

It might be the stylized version of Marimekko , or the subtle gradations of an Andy Warhol silkscreen print, but it’s still the natural wonder of it that has the power to amaze you and enhance your outfit and your life.

Definition of floral: of, relating to, or depicting flowers.
