Forever youthful the colors of the rainbow, and the rainbow itself, are always uplifting. As we celebrate Pride month the rainbow has also come to mean inclusion for the LGBTQ community and a wearable symbol of acknowledgment.

A few Halloween’s ago, at the school I work at as a Special Education Instructional Assistant for LAUSD, I got to live out my fantasy of dressing like the fairy Violet from Louisa May Alcott’s short story “The Power of Love”. Clad in a handmade tulle skirt, floral leggings, fairy wings, and a tiara I danced a happy fairy dance with my coworker (who was also dressed like a fairy) on the playground in front of the whole school. What made the costume so memorable was the how the color scheme showcased various shades of purple.
In addition to being one of my favorite colors, purple is also quite significant for me, because it’s the color for lupus awareness, and I was diagnosed with SLE lupus in 2008. Slightly 1930s, I love that the subtle design and longer hemline make it a perfect garden party or afternoon tea frock especially if paired with a pretty hat, bag, and ballet flats.

I never realized how important fashion photography was until I visited the “Icons of Style” at “The Getty Center” in 2018. Arranged around stunning designer garments it was a feast for the eyes that continues to inspire me.

When I received this necklace in the mail I was happy that it was so heavy and sculptural. Slightly punk and rustic it’s the perfect accessory for white button-downs and feminine dresses.
Florals aren’t for everyone, especially if you’re the type who doesn’t care for unadulterated beauty, and prefer sturdy neutrals instead. Yet even if you are the practical sort prone to mannish, no-nonsense details, I’m sure there’s a floral out there for you.
It might be the stylized version of Marimekko , or the subtle gradations of an Andy Warhol silkscreen print, but it’s still the natural wonder of it that has the power to amaze you and enhance your outfit and your life.

I want to communicate through clothes a concept of opposite worlds and traditions fusing together in a sophisticated way and standing side-by-side with equal importance, not covering the other up.
